Student-athletes juggle more than almost anyone: class, lifting, practice, games, travel, and—ideally—sleep. Time management is a performance skill.

  1. Track it. Keep track of your time for one week without changing anything.
  2. Audit it. At the end of the week, ask: did I spend my time on the essential things?
  3. Make a weekly list. If not, write the important items for the coming week on Sunday. Limit the list to about fourteen items—an average of two per day.
  4. Review daily and prioritize. Decide which day you will work on each item, review the list every morning, and do the most important things first.

We only have a certain amount of energy each day. If you plan your day, you are far more likely to accomplish what is on your list—and show up to the field with energy left.
